Baseball Recap: Shepherd Bluejays vs. Gladwin Flying G's

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Shepherd and Gladwin meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Saturday. The Bluejays fell just short of the Flying G's by a score of 5-3. The Bluejays were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Flying G's earlier this season, when they won 5-4.

Bryce Smith was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed over his last four contests. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base.
