Preview: Cooperstown Hawkeyes vs. Richfield Springs Central Indians

The Cooperstown Hawkeyes will finish 2023 at home by hosting the Richfield Springs Central Indians at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Cooperstown entered their tilt with Sherburne-Earlville with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Cooperstown strolled past Sherburne-Earlville with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 67-53.

Brody Murdock and Charlie Lambert were among the main playmakers for Cooperstown as the former scored 16 points and the latter scored 23 points along with six rebounds and four steals. That makes it eight consecutive games in which Lambert has scored at least 25% of Cooperstown's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Crisman, who scored ten points.

Richfield Springs Central has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four contests by 21 points or more this season. They blew past Gilbertsville-Mt. Upton 72-37 at home. That 72-37 margin sets a new team best for Richfield Springs Central this season.

Cooperstown's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-3. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.7 points per game. As for Richfield Springs Central, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-1.

Cooperstown came up short against Richfield Springs Central when the teams last played back in December of 2021, falling 52-45. Can Cooperstown avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
