Baseball Recap: Brito Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Win

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Brito had no problem doing just that on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 win over the Schoolhouse Prep Wolfpack. That's two games straight that the Panthers have won by exactly two runs.

Samuel Castro spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up 11 Ks. He has become a key player for Brito: the team is 5-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 7-12 otherwise.

At the plate, Brito saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hector Santos, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Santos is becoming a predictor of the Panthers' success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is undefeated (and 9-14 when he doesn't).

The victory was the fifth in a row for Brito, bringing their record up to 12-14. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 3.4 runs across that stretch. As for Schoolhouse Prep, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-11.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Brito beat the Wolfpack by a score of 6-5 on Tuesday.
