Football Game Preview: Marshall Cardinals vs. Fall River/Rio

The Marshall Cardinals will head out on the road to face off against Fall River/Rio at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Marshall and Cambridge meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Friday. The Cardinals came out on top against the Bluejays by a score of 21-14.

Meanwhile, after only seven points in their last matchup, Fall River/Rio made sure to put some points up on the board against Deerfield on Friday. Fall River/Rio really took it to Deerfield for the full four quarters, racking up a 35-0 victory. The game was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Fall River/Rio had established a 28-point advantage.

Marshall is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 3-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 27.8 points over those games. As for Fall River/Rio, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.

Everything came up roses for Marshall against Fall River/Rio in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 44-8 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cardinals since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
