Baseball Game Preview: New Roads Jaguars vs. Rio Hondo Prep Kares

The New Roads Jaguars will venture away from home to take on the Rio Hondo Prep Kares at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Last Wednesday, everything went New Roads' way against Bolsa Grande as New Roads made off with a 16-4 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Jaguars.

Xavier Walker was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in runs.

In other batting news, Hayden Farrell-Katseanes was a standout: he scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. What's more, he posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in February of 2024. Matthew Linares was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-5.

New Roads always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .583. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bolsa Grande only posted an OBP of .400.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Rio Hondo Prep, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Rosemead with a sharp 14-3 victory on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Kares have posted since March 22, 2024.

The victory got Rio Hondo Prep back to even at 1-1. As for New Roads, their record now sits at 2-0.
