With a playoff win on the line, North Bay Haven Academy rose to the challenge on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over the Walton Braves. Considering the Buccaneers have won 17 games by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Addison Mallon and Ally Brady made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Mallon struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Brady pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. At the plate, Mallon went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and one RBI, while Brady went 2-for-4 with two runs. That's the most doubles Mallon has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, McKenzie Goff was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Bailee Gladden, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
The win (which was North Bay Haven Academy's 12th in a row) raised their record to 22-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Walton, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 9-14.
Looking ahead, North Bay Haven Academy will square off against Bozeman at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Buccaneers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bucks have averaged an impressive 7.6 runs per game this season. Walton does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
