Basketball Recap: Dollar Bay Falls Despite Big Games from Laila Bell and Kiera Isaacson

After flying high against Watersmeet last Wednesday, Dollar Bay came back down to earth. The Dollar Bay Bays took a 41-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Ontonagon Gladiators. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bays of the 42-27 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2024.

Dollar Bay's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Kiera Isaacson, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and 18 boards, and Laila Bell, who posted 12 points and four steals. With that strong performance, Isaacson is now averaging an impressive 8.6 rebounds per game.

Even though they lost, Dollar Bay smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 16 offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.

Dollar Bay has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-12 record this season. Ontonagon's win bumped their record up to 8-10.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Dollar Bay will take on Wakefield at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Dollar Bay is facing Wakefield at the right time seeing as Wakefield is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Ontonagon, they will venture away from home to square off against Dollar Bay at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday.
