Basketball Game Preview: Maclay Marauders vs. North Bay Haven Academy Buccaneers

Maclay is on a five-game streak of home wins, while North Bay Haven Academy is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Maclay Marauders will host the North Bay Haven Academy Buccaneers at 4:15 p.m. on Saturday. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Lauren Guyer and Kaylee Goodpaster.

Last Thursday, Maclay was beaten by Lincoln 62-21. While losing is never fun, the Marauders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 343rd, while the Trojans are ranked 124th).

Meanwhile, North Bay Haven Academy took their matchup on Friday with ease, bagging a 41-3 win over Altha. The Buccaneers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 21 points or more this season.

Maclay better keep an eye on Goodpaster. She was instrumental in North Bay Haven Academy's win, going 8 for 12 en route to 22 points along with six boards and six steals. That makes it nine consecutive games in which Goodpaster has scored at least a third of North Bay Haven Academy's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ally Brady, who posted two points in addition to six rebounds and three steals.

Maclay's defeat dropped their record down to 14-9. As for North Bay Haven Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season.

Maclay came up short against North Bay Haven Academy in their previous matchup two weeks ago, falling 46-41. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Goodpaster, who went 12 of 25 on her way to 31 points along with seven boards and three steals.
