Basketball Recap: Durham School of the Arts Comes Up Short

Durham School of the Arts was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They were outmatched by the Carrboro Jaguars and fell 58-16. The Bulldogs were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 45-7.

Durham School of the Arts' loss came despite strong showings from Faith Yon and Kaylen Mumford. Yon posted 13 points, while Mumford earned no points. That was a full 81.3% of Durham School of the Arts' points, marking the fifth time in a row Yon has put up more than a third of the team's points. Themis Brown also deserves some recognition as she scored her first point of the season.

Carrboro got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Madison Taylor out in front who went 6-for-10 en route to 15 points and three steals. Taylor has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last eight times she's played. Yazmin Paisant was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with 12 points and nine boards.

Durham School of the Arts' loss dropped their record down to 2-19. As for Carrboro, the victory was the 13th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-5.

Coming up, Durham School of the Arts will head out to take on Carrboro at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Carrboro knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past five matchups -- so hopefully Durham School of the Arts likes a good challenge. As for Carrboro, they have already played their next game, a 1-0 win against Granville Central on the 15th.
