Basketball Recap: Weldon Valley Warriors vs. Campion Academy Cougars
Weldon Valley played a tough game on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against the Campion Academy Cougars, falling 63-36. The Warriors haven't had much luck with the Cougars recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Several Warriors players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Dane Johnston, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine boards. August Filter was another key player, putting up 16 points.
Even though they lost, Weldon Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Campion Academy only pulled down two offensive rebounds.
Campion Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Izuchi Nwankqo out in front who went 8 for 11 on his way to 18 points in addition to seven assists and five blocks. Nwankqo is also crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Josh Fresse also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.
Weldon Valley's record is now 2-6. As for Campion Academy, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-0.
Weldon Valley has already played their next matchup, a 43-35 win against Briggsdale on the 18th. Campion Academy has also already played their next contest (against Loveland Protestant Reformed Christian), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
