Basketball Game Preview: Leesburg Yellow Jackets vs. Ponte Vedra Sharks

After both having extra time off, the Leesburg Yellow Jackets and the Ponte Vedra Sharks will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court one another at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Leesburg's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last six contests.

Leesburg is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup last Thursday. They enjoyed a cozy 61-46 win over Lecanto.

Leesburg's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Xavier Campbell, who posted 16 points. Jalen Brown was another key player, putting up 15 points.

Meanwhile, Ponte Vedra came tearing into last Thursday's matchup with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.3 points), and they left with even more momentum. Ponte Vedra's win came from a few key players Leesburg will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was David Sanchez Barrera, who almost dropped a double-double with 16 points and nine assists. That's the most assists he has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddox Palmer, who went 6-for-7 en route to 14 points.

Ponte Vedra was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They are 19-5 when they've passed the ball that well.

Leesburg is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 games. That's provided a massive bump to their 17-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.4 points over those games. Ponte Vedra's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-8.

Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as Leesburg and Ponte Vedra are some of the highest-scoring teams around.
