Basketball Recap: Model Secondary School for the Deaf Takes a Loss

Model Secondary School for the Deaf played a tough contest on Monday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by the Sandy Spring Friends Wildebeests 62-34. The Eagles lost against the Wildebeests in their previous head to head back in January of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 95-27 score last time.

Despite the loss, Model Secondary School for the Deaf saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Johan Hewapathirana posted 11 points.

Model Secondary School for the Deaf dropped their record down to 7-14 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Sandy Spring Friends, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 12-18 record this season.

Model Secondary School for the Deaf has already played their next game, a 59-38 loss against Smith Jewish Day School on the 28th. As for Sandy Spring Friends, they will challenge Model Secondary School for the Deaf at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Sandy Spring Friends knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven contests -- so hopefully Model Secondary School for the Deaf likes a good challenge.
