Football Recap: Mitchell Takes a Loss

Mitchell had lost seven straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 1-7 to make it eight. They lost 28-3 to the Huron Tigers. The Kernels were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 22-0.

As for Huron, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 7.1 points on average over those games.

Landon Hulst produced another solid performance rushing for 102 yards and a pair of scores, while also picking up 35 receiving yards. He didn't just play on offense: he also forced one fumble, made three total tackles (2.0 for loss), and defended one pass.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Mitchell is set to take on their familiar foe Yankton at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Huron will face off against rival Brookings at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Tigers 11.4, the Bobcats 13.1) so any points scored will be well earned.
