Baseball Game Preview: Northland Pines Eagles vs. Wright Red Devils

The Northland Pines Eagles are taking a road trip to face off against the Wright Red Devils at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams were dealt some close losses in their previous games and are determined not to let this one get away.

Northland Pines blew Antigo out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Friday Antigo got their revenge. The Eagles fell just short of the Red Robins by a score of 9-7. The Eagles' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Ethan Miller led a balanced group of hitters, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. Griffin Beyer also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Meanwhile, Wright suffered their closest defeat since May 17, 2024 on Thursday. They fell just short of Washburn by a score of 4-2. The Red Devils have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Brendan McCullough spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits and racked up seven Ks.

On the hitting side, Wright saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Madden Sommer, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

Wright's loss dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Northland Pines, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-5.

Northland Pines beat Wright 5-1 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
