Basketball Recap: Bayfield Falls to Dolores in First Game of Season

Bayfield unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They took a 54-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Dolores Bears on Tuesday. The Wolverines were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bears apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Bayfield lost, don't look at Vivien Clance. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Kieley White Thunder, who posted eight points and 13 boards.

Dolores' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Autumn Settles led the charge by almost dropping a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Settles a new career-high in blocks (six). Emilynn Hill was another key player, going 5-for-8 to rack up 11 points and eight steals.

Coming up, Bayfield will head out to take on Creede at 2:00 p.m. on the 12th. As for Dolores, they have already played their next matchup, a 48-19 win against Sangre de Cristo on the 4th.
