Softball Recap: Wheeler Bearcats vs. South Central Satellites
Wheeler dropped their record down to 9-4 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's six-game streak of wins on the road dating back to last season. They took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the South Central Satellites. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bearcats of the 2-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.
As for South Central, they pushed their record up to 7-2-1 with the victory, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. Seven seems to be a good number for they as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.
For South Central's part, Lexi Johnson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up nine Ks. Johnson has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Valerie Horne was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. Caitlin Allen was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Coincidentally, Wheeler and South Central will both be playing Kouts the next time they take the field. The Satellites will host the Mustangs & Fillies on Thursday, while the Bearcats will play them later in the day, at 4:30 p.m.
