Baseball Recap: Peyton Pharr Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Mantachie

Belmont's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They never let the Mantachie Mustangs get on the board and left with a 3-0 win. The Cardinals haven't had any issues with the Mustangs recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

The result came thanks to Madden Wood's shutout, as he gave up just four hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Belmont is 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 5-11 otherwise.

At the plate, Belmont's win was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Peyton Pharr, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Pharr also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Another was Kohlyee Estes, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Belmont was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mantachie only posted a batting average of .091.

Belmont's victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 7-12. As for Mantachie, they dropped their record down to 6-12 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight at home.

Belmont will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Mustangs: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
