Football Recap: Burbank Takes a Loss

If Burbank was riding high fresh off their 49-28 takedown of Crescenta Valley last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Bulldogs were outmatched by the Muir Mustangs and fell 58-28. The Bulldogs have struggled against the Mustangs recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.

Burbank lost on Friday despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Deshawn Laporte, who threw for 375 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 11.0 yards per attempt. Laporte is crushing it when it comes to passing touchdowns: he's passed for at least three every time he's taken the field this season. Burbank's leading receiver Tyler Hudson was Laporte's top target yet again, picking up 177 receiving yards and one TD.

Trey Gamble was his usual excellent self, throwing for 305 yards and four touchdowns while completing 72.7% of his passes for Muir. Alijah Parker was in the mix as well, providing the Mustangs with two scores.

Burbank's loss dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Muir, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 4-1.

Looking ahead, Burbank will take on Arcadia at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs will be up against the Apaches' rather soft defense (which has allowed 35.6 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Muir, they will head out on the road to square off against Crescenta Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Gamble and Xavier Thompson.
