Basketball Recap: Mid-Pacific Institute Takes a Loss

On Monday, the Mid-Pacific Institute Owls were beaten by the Oak Ridge Trojans 73-46. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Owls came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked tenth in Hawaii, while the Trojans are ranked 63rd in California).

Mid-Pacific Institute's loss came despite strong showings from Riley Miura and Darius Chizer. Miura went 7 for 12 on his way to 21 points, while Chizer posted 14 points. That's the most points Miura has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Logan Mason, who had seven points and nine rebounds.

Mid-Pacific Institute's loss dropped their record down to 13-7. As for Oak Ridge, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season.

Mid-Pacific Institute will be defending their home court for the first time this season when they go up against Punahou at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Punahou's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season. As for Oak Ridge, they will head out to face off against Laguna Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
