Baseball Game Preview: Richfield Spartans vs. DeLaSalle Islanders

The Richfield Spartans will head out on the road to challenge the DeLaSalle Islanders at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Richfield came out on top against Washburn on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive nine-run third inning. The Spartans' pitcher stepped up to hand the Millers a 10-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Spartans, who have now won four matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Jayden Anderson was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Popp, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Richfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. The last time their OBP was this high was was before the start of last season.

Meanwhile, DeLaSalle can bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Robbinsdale Cooper as they made off with an 11-1 victory. That looming 11-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Islanders yet this season.

Richfield now has a winning record of 6-5. As for DeLaSalle, their record now sits at 5-7.

Richfield suffered a grim 11-3 defeat to DeLaSalle when the teams last played back in April. Can the Spartans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
