Volleyball Recap: West Carteret Victorious

West Carteret proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by three) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past the Laney Buccaneers 3-2.

The match was a true back-and-forth as no team won consecutive sets, but in the end it was West Carteret who won the one that mattered. The final score came out to 25-16, 17-25, 25-19, 24-26, 15-7.

Molly Scott Cottrell paced West Carteret's offense, picking up 18 kills. Cottrell got some help from Ella-Grace Rodriguez and her 38 assists. Cottrell was also solid from the service line: she led the team with six aces.

Laney's loss came despite strong showings from Abigail (Abbey) Hendren and Natalie Dickerson. Hendren had 25 assists and four digs, while Dickerson had 16 digs and two aces.

West Carteret's win bumped their record up to 2-0.

West Carteret wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 3-1 victory against Pamlico County on the 14th. As for Laney, they are packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game of the season: they will square off against D.H. Conley at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
