Basketball Game Preview: Thompson Valley Eagles vs. Severance Silver Knights

Having just played yesterday, the Thompson Valley Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Severance Silver Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Thompson Valley knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight contests -- so hopefully Severance likes a good challenge.

Thompson Valley fought the good fight in their overtime game against Timnath on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 66-57 to the Cubs.

Meanwhile, Severance had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 31.6 points) and they went ahead and made it eight on Friday. They took down the Cubs 62-48.

Severance's win came from a few key players Thompson Valley will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Blake Varney, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 14 points. Cannon Rank was another key player, going 7 for 11 to rack up 14 points along with five assists and five boards.

Severance was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Timnath only racked up eight assists.

Severance pushed their record up to 13-5 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy: their three-point shooting accuracy was 38.5% in those games and 27.5% outside of them. As for Thompson Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 13-6.

Thompson Valley ended up a good deal behind Severance when the teams last played back in January, losing 63-49. Can Thompson Valley avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
