Softball Recap: Aurora East Takes a Loss

Aurora East had lost eight straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 0-11 to make it nine. They came up short against the Glenbard East Rams, falling 19-0. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Tomcats' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

As for Glenbard East, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-2. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by six runs or more this season.

For Glenbard East's part, Lorelai May and Althea Fitzgerald made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, May tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Fitzgerald tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (five). At the plate, May went 1-for-2 with three RBI and one run, while Fitzgerald got on base in both of her plate appearances with two runs.

In other batting news, Amelia Clifford was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those two hits gave her a new career-high. Lilly Carver was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Coming up, Aurora East will venture away from home to challenge South Elgin at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tomcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Storm have averaged an impressive 9.2 runs per game this season. As for Glenbard East, they will welcome Elmwood Park at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Rams are facing the Tigers at the right time seeing as the Tigers are stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
