Pace had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They were the clear victor by a 44-21 margin over the Hidalgo Pirates on Friday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Vikings as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak dating back to last season.
Adrian Sauceda went supernova for Pace, rushing for 258 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.6 yards per carry. The dominant performance gave him a new career- in rushing yards. Isaac Solis was another key player, throwing for 178 yards and three touchdowns on only 16 passes.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Pace was moving up and down the field and finished the game with 507 total yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hidalgo only gained 130.
Although Hidalgo took the loss, they still got scores from Anthony Warren, Matthias Martinez, and Danny Rodriguez.
Pace will venture away from home to face off against Bishop at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Pace focused on turnovers this week as team gave up four on Friday. As for Hidalgo, they will be playing at home against La Feria at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hidalgo will come in still looking for their first win of the season.
