Softball Recap: Wellington Beats Clearview for Their Fourth Straight Victory

Wellington had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 20-4 margin over the Clearview Clippers. With that victory, the Dukes brought their scoring average up to 8 runs per game.

Mallory Pickering was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.

In other batting news, Grace Denes was a standout: she scored three runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Caedyn Wacker, who scored three runs while going 3-for-3.

Wellington was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .308 or higher in four consecutive games.

Wellington's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-2. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Clearview, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-4.
