Basketball Recap: Judge Memorial Catholic Drops Season-High Score on Providence Hall

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Judge Memorial Catholic). They claimed a resounding 100-21 victory over the Providence Hall Patriots. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 40th, while the Patriots are ranked 125th), the result on Wednesday wasn't entirely unexpected.

It was another big night for JJ Apathjang, who almost dropped a triple-double on 26 points, 12 boards, and nine assists. He has been hot for a while, having posted 16 or more points the last 12 times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Deng Deng, who went 8 for 13 on his way to 21 points and seven rebounds.

Apathjang wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Judge Memorial Catholic was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Judge Memorial Catholic has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.2 points per game. As for Providence Hall, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-12.

Judge Memorial Catholic will take on Summit Academy at 7:00 p.m. on January 31st. Providence Hall has already played their next match, a 108-54 loss against American Heritage on the 24th.
