The Steele Canyon Cougars will be taking part in a tournament against the Mira Mesa Marauders at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Having struggled with 24 losses in a row dating back to last season, Steele Canyon turned things around against San Ysidro on Monday. They walked away with a 4-1 victory over San Ysidro. Steele Canyon's hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Hunter Haase spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Julian Cervantes, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and one RBI. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in hits. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Caha, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Mira Mesa never let their opponents score on Monday. Everything went their way against Santana as Mira Mesa made off with an 8-0 win. That eight run margin sets a new team best for the Marauders this season.
Ziggy Avinion made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over six innings pitched. Avinion was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3. Those runs were his first of the season.
In other batting news, Nathaniel Widelski was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-3. Those hits marked the first that he got this season. Another player making a difference was Blake Rothrock, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Mira Mesa always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Steele Canyon's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Mira Mesa, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Steele Canyon suffered a grim 13-7 defeat to Mira Mesa when the teams last played back in March of 2019. Can Steele Canyon avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
