Basketball Recap: Mountain View Falls Despite Big Games from Amelia Suguturaga and Kimberlee Brown

Mountain View and Cedar squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Mountain View had to settle for second. They took a 66-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cedar Reds. If the Bruins were looking for revenge after losing 43-31 to them when the teams met back in December of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Kimberlee Brown and Amelia Suguturaga certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Brown posted 15 points and eight boards, while Suguturaga almost dropped a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds. That's the most points Suguturaga has posted since back in December of 2024. Saralynn Hair was another key player, putting up seven points.

Even though they lost, Mountain View smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in six consecutive contests.

Mountain View's defeat dropped their record down to 15-8. As for Cedar, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season.

Mountain View does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Cedar, they will challenge Ridgeline at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Ridgeline sitting on 24 straight wins and Cedar on three.
