Basketball Recap: Ariton Extends Winning Streak to Six

Ariton came tearing into Friday's match with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21.4 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 36-23 win over the Long Rebels. Given the Purple Cats' advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 155th, while the Rebels are ranked 351st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Ariton was led to victory by Nya Allen and Macileigh Bragg. Allen posted 13 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals, while Bragg went 5 for 10 on her way to 14 points and five rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Allen has scored at least a third of Ariton's points.

Ariton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 13 consecutive games.

Ariton pushed their record up to 11-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.3 points per game. As for Long, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-17 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ariton will host Abbeville at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Abbeville's defense has only allowed 26.9 points per game this season, so Ariton's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Long, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Barbour County at 6:00 p.m. Long is facing Barbour County at the right time seeing as Barbour County is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
