Softball Recap: West Brunswick Gets the Win

After losing to Whiteville the last time they met, West Brunswick decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The West Brunswick Trojans walked away with a 5-1 victory over the Whiteville Wolfpack on Tuesday. That's two games straight that the Trojans have won by exactly four runs.

Olivia Brown spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Katelyn Woodard, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Brooklyn Somers was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.

Woodard wasn't the only one working in the hit department: West Brunswick kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits every time they've taken the field this season.

West Brunswick's win bumped their record up to 3-0.

West Brunswick wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 17-2 victory against Clinton on the 7th. As for Whiteville, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 7-1 defeat against South Brunswick on the 7th.
