Baseball Recap: Madonna's Win on Wednesday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Madonna waltzed into their game on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Paden City Wildcats a 23-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Blue Dons, who have now won 15 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Mathew Geer made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles.

In other batting news, Jacob Lazear was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Sam Brooks, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Madonna was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .594. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Madonna's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-4. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.0 runs over those games. As for Paden City, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-11.

As of now, neither Madonna nor the Wildcats have any future games scheduled.
