Niles West hasn't had much luck against New Trier recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Wolves will take on the Trevians at 10:00 a.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Thursday, Niles West sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 victory over Vernon Hills.
Niles West got a great performance from Shaylen Patel as he pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits.
On the hitting side, Niles West let Ryan Lee and Christian Guzman run wild. Lee went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI, while Guzman went 1-for-2 with two runs and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucas Som, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Niles West hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 2-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Meanwhile, New Trier waltzed into their contest on Wednesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They blew past the Titans 14-5. Considering the Trevians have won ten games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Jackie Ryder looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Trey Meyers, who got on base in all six of his plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. That's the most runs he has posted over his last 11 matchups. Mason Bloom was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.
New Trier's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-5-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Niles West, their record now sits at 10-13.
