Soccer Game Preview: Verrado vs. Youngker

The Verrado Vipers will take on the Youngker Roughriders at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Verrado turned things around against Deer Valley last Saturday. The two teams finished up on equal footing with a 2-2 draw.

Jaci Jones was the only thing that stood between Verrado and a shutout considering she scored both of Verrado's goals, bringing her season total up to four goals.

Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous three contests, Youngker brought some dynamite into their most recent match. They never let Central onto the board and left with an 8-0 win on Wednesday. Given the Roughriders' advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona soccer rankings (they are ranked 48th, while the Bobcats are ranked 149th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Something new happened on Wednesday as Selene Martinez saw her first action of the season, playing 80 minutes against Central. Martinez made the most of the opportunity, putting up two assists A few more games like that and she might be seeing even more time going forward.

Youngker's victory bumped their record up to 4-1-2. Verrado's draw makes their record 4-4-4 this season.

Everything went Verrado's way against Youngker in their previous matchup back in January of 2015, as Verrado made off with a 7-0 win. Does Verrado have another victory up their sleeve, or will Youngker turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
