Basketball Game Preview: Decorah-North Winneshiek Vikings vs. Waukon Indians

The Decorah-North Winneshiek Vikings will head out on the road to face off against the Waukon Indians at 6:45 p.m. on Friday.

Last Monday, Decorah-North Winneshiek came up short against West Delaware and fell 47-39.

Meanwhile, Waukon entered their tilt with Sumner-Fredericksburg on Thursday with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. They claimed a resounding 55-24 victory over the Cougars. Given the Indians' advantage in MaxPreps' Iowa basketball rankings (they are ranked 120th, while the Cougars are ranked 251st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Waukon's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-5. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.4 points per game. As for Decorah-North Winneshiek, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-7 record this season.

Decorah-North Winneshiek beat Waukon 58-45 when the teams last played back in December of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Decorah-North Winneshiek since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
