Basketball Game Preview: Taft Greyhounds vs. West Oso Bears

Taft is 0-4 against West Oso since December of 2014 but things could change on Tuesday. The Taft Greyhounds will head out on the road to face off against the West Oso Bears at 7:30 p.m.

Taft lost 67-41 to London on Friday. While the Greyhounds didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Pirates 16-12 in the first quarter.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Josette Aparicio, who posted 17 points. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in points. Yaneli Rios was another key player, putting up six points and nine rebounds.

Meanwhile, West Oso waltzed into their game on Friday with ten straight wins... but they left with 11. They really took it to the Longhorns for the full four quarters, racking up a 71-23 win. With the Bears ahead 42-15 at the half, the contest was all but over already.

West Oso's win came from a few key players Taft will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Malaigha Sweats, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 18 boards. The matchup was her third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Khiana Johnson, who scored eight points in addition to eight rebounds and seven steals.

West Oso pushed their record up to 26-5 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 20.0 points per game. As for Taft, their loss dropped their record down to 19-13.

Taft took a serious blow against West Oso when the teams last played back in January, falling 79-26. Can Taft avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
