Baseball Game Preview: Meyersdale Red Raiders vs. Everett Warriors

The Meyersdale Red Raiders will take on the Everett Warriors at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Everett took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Meyersdale, who comes in off a win.

On Thursday, Meyersdale was able to grind out a solid victory over Windber, taking the game 6-3.

Ryan Sechler made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one run.

Sechler wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Cole Yoder, who went 1-for-4 with one run. Nick Kimble was another, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Everett and Northern Bedford County meet (six straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Friday. The Warriors fell 5-1 to the Panthers.

Owen Whitfield spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on six hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

Everett's loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 5-9. As for Meyersdale, the win got them back to even at 8-8.

Meyersdale's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's contest. The Red Raiders have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Everett, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Meyersdale continue to outrun the ball?
