Serena Gillen was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Gillen wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Samantha Otano, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, Westminster Christian didn't have quite enough to beat Somerset Academy (Silver Palms) last Tuesday and fell 3-2.
Kaley Dyer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits.
At the plate, Gigi Khoury was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run and one stolen base. She also brought in an RBI, marking her first of the season.
Westminster Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Florida Christian, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.
Westminster Christian's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Florida Christian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.4 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Westminster Christian, though, as they've been averaging only 3.4 strikeouts. Will Florida Christian keep running through batters, or will Westminster Christian buck the trend?
Florida Christian couldn't quite finish off Westminster Christian in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 and fell 5-3. Can Florida Christian avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
