Baseball Recap: Maumee's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Tuesday

Maumee dropped their record down to 15-7 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Northview Wildcats. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wildcats apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

As for Northview, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record up to 13-10. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games.

For Northview's part, Graham Newnham tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Newnham has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Charlie Paulson, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Conner Draper was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs.

Looking ahead, Maumee will head out to take on Eastwood at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Panthers 2.6, the Eagles 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Northview, they will be playing at home against Perrysburg at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The last three games the Yellow Jackets have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
