Recap: Washington County Commanders vs. Newport Wildcats

It was a good run, but the Washington County Commanders unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell 64-55 to Newport. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Washington County has scored all season.

Leading Newport to victory were Tay Kinney and Deshaun Jackson jr. Kinney scored 19 points, while Jackson jr scored 17 points along with seven assists. The match was Kinney's eighth in a row with at least ten points. Jabari Covington was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with eight rebounds.

Washington County's defeat dropped their record down to 6-1. As for Newport, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-1.

Washington County will head out on the road to face off against Butler at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Newport won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Great Crossing at 7:30 p.m. on December 21st. Great Crossing knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven contests -- so hopefully Newport likes a good challenge.
