Softball Game Preview: Waterloo Cougars vs. Shoals Christian Flame

Waterloo is a perfect 10-0 against Shoals Christian since March of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Waterloo Cougars will be playing at home against the Shoals Christian Flame at 4:30 p.m. Shoals Christian took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Waterloo, who comes in off a win.

Waterloo is headed into the match having just posted their closest victory since April 22, 2024 on Thursday. They skirted past Colbert County 7-6.

Georgiana Kavich spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 11 Ks. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in May of 2024.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Clara Lambert, who scored a run while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (two). Another player making a difference was Claire Cooper, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, Shoals Christian came up short against Tishomingo County on Saturday, falling 8-1. The Flame have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Shoals Christian saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Natalee Saylor, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Waterloo is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. Shoals Christian's loss dropped their record down to 2-5.

Waterloo took their win against Shoals Christian when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 16-2. Will Waterloo repeat their success, or does Shoals Christian have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
