Baseball Game Preview: Barr-Reeve Vikings vs. Evansville Central Bears

The Barr-Reeve Vikings will head out to square off against the Evansville Central Bears at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Barr-Reeve will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

Barr-Reeve came out on top against Orleans on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run fourth inning. The Vikings walked away with an 8-5 win over the Bulldogs.

Meanwhile, Evansville Central hadn't done well against Evansville North recently (they were 1-7-1 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Bears skirted past the Huskies 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Bears have posted against the Huskies since April 8, 2023.

Jaxton Reeder spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on four hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Evansville Central is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 3-15 otherwise.

At the plate, Evansville Central saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hunter Broshears, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

The win made it two in a row for Evansville Central and bumps their season record up to 5-16. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games. As for Barr-Reeve, their record is now 18-4.

Barr-Reeve skirted past Evansville Central 5-4 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
