Baseball Recap: Messalonskee Takes a Loss

Messalonskee extended their losing streak to four on Monday, dropping their season record down to 6-5 in the process. They fell 8-4 to the Brunswick Dragons. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Dragons apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Messalonskee saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dagen Gooding, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

As for Brunswick, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games.

On Brunswick's side, Lism Scholl made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). Scholl has become a key player for Brunswick: the team is undefeated when he allows at most three earned runs, but 2-3 otherwise. Scholl was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Tyler Maxim was excellent, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run and one RBI. Cam Beal was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Coming up, Messalonskee will square off against Bangor at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The Rams' pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so the Eagles' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Brunswick, they will take on Camden Hills at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
