Softball Game Preview: United Lions vs. River Valley Panthers

A feisty cat fight will be fought as United Lions challenge River Valley Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. United has now lost eight straight dating back to last season, leaving the team hunting for their first win since April 26.

Tuesday just wasn't the day for United's offense. They came up short against Homer-Center on Tuesday, falling 20-0.

Meanwhile, River Valley got the win against Cambria Heights on Tuesday by a conclusive 14-6.

Sara Bollinger made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched seven innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off 11 hits. Bollinger was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lilian Buckles, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. Maddie Twinchek was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.

United's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for River Valley, their record is now 1-0.

United might still be hurting after the 12-0 loss they got from River Valley in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can United avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
