Softball Game Preview: Ferndale Golden Eagles vs. Lynden Christian Lyncs

Ferndale hasn't had much luck against Lynden Christian recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Golden Eagles will square off against the Lyncs at 4:30 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Ferndale took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They blew past Sehome 18-2. The Golden Eagles have beaten the Mariners the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Mariners has come to flipping the script.

Ferndale got a great performance from Charlotte Simon as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. Simon has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Kaelin Blakley was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run and five RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Hannah Swan, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.

Ferndale always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .714. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Lynden Christian came tearing into Saturday's contest with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.6 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Storm a 12-0 shutout. Surprisingly, this marked the Lyncs' fifth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Lynden Christian's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-6. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Ferndale, their record is now 8-10.

Ferndale might still be hurting after the 14-4 defeat they got from Lynden Christian in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Golden Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
