Softball Game Preview: New Milford Green Wave vs. Waterford Lancers

The New Milford Green Wave will challenge the Waterford Lancers on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (New Milford 2.6, Waterford 2.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Five must be New Milford's lucky number: they beat Mercy with that score not once but twice on Wednesday. The Green Wave beat the Tigers by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 5-4. Winning may never get old, but the Green Wave sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Lydia Rocky spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on three hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Lilly Fortier, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Cienna McNamara, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, it can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Waterford had no problem doing just that on Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Bulldogs, sneaking past 3-2. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Lancers as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

New Milford's record now sits at 19-6. As for Waterford, their record is now 18-4.
