Football Recap: Alexander Central Starts Season with Defeat at Home + How To Watch

Alexander Central unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They lost 42-21 to the Newton-Conover Red Devils on Friday. While the Cougars didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Red Devils 7-0 in the first quarter.

Although Alexander Central took the loss, they still got scores from Jacob Hubbard, Jaheim Redmond, and Sawyer Chapman-Mays.

Newton-Conover found their leader in sophomore Jeremiah Pope, who rushed for 172 yards and four TDs while picking up 8.6 yards per carry. Pope was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 55 yards.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Alexander Central will head out to square off against Hickory at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Newton-Conover, they will venture away from home to challenge Polk County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 881 yards in their previous games.
