Baseball Recap: St. Clair Cyclones vs. Cleveland Clippers
St. Clair extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 12 on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 0-9 in the process. They lost 19-1 to the Cleveland Clippers. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cyclones of the 10-2 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.
As for Cleveland, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
For Cleveland's part, Alex Kortuem made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave Kortuem a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double.
In other batting news, Caleb Connor was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and one double. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Nathan Seeman, who went 2-for-4 with four runs and three RBI.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Clair will host Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Cleveland, they will square off against Mountain Lake/Comfrey at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
