Softball Recap: Washington Has No Trouble Against Deer Valley

Washington gave up the first runs on Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. They put the hurt on the Deer Valley Wolverines with a sharp 16-4 win. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Huskies also won the last time the pair played back in March of 2024.

Olivia Machuca made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out 11 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off two hits. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in strikeouts. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ariel Guerra, who scored two runs while going 2-for-5. Another player making a difference was Sophia Swyers, who scored a run while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

Washington was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Deer Valley only posted a batting average of .125.

The victory made it two in a row for Washington and bumps their season record up to 2-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Deer Valley, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Washington will head out to face off against Mt. Eden at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Deer Valley, they will venture away from home to take on Irvington at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
