Basketball Recap: Coronado Takes a Loss

Coronado lost against Falcon back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Coronado Cougars came up short against the Falcon Falcons, falling 61-37. That's two games in a row now that the Cougars have lost by exactly 24 points.

When it comes to explaining why Coronado lost, don't look at Omar Dubose. Despite the final result, he posted five points. The dominant performance also gave Dubose a new career-high in shooting accuracy (67%).

Falcon's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Xavier Linville, who put up 11 points and eight boards. Linville is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last ten games he's played. Isaak Lane was another key player, going 6-for-10 en route to 12 points.

Coronado dropped their record down to 2-19 with the defeat, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Falcon, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season.

Looking ahead, Coronado will be playing in front of their home fans against Mesa Ridge at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Mesa Ridge will roll in looking for their 18th straight victory, something Coronado surely won't give up without a fight. As for Falcon, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 76-41 win against Elizabeth on the 11th.
