Basketball Recap: Smith Academy Fighting 54th vs. Clinton Christian Couriers

Smith Academy played a tough matchup on Saturday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against the Clinton Christian Couriers, falling 62-37. The Fighting 54th were not able to make up for their loss to the Couriers from their previous meeting back in December of 2023.

Despite the defeat, Smith Academy saw an underclassman step up: freshman Judah Smith posted 19 points. Quavontre Prince also deserves some recognition as he scored his first points of the season.

Clinton Christian found their leader in sophomore Edmund Hull, who dropped a double-double with 27 points and 12 boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hull has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Layne Yoder, who scored eight points and three steals.

Smith Academy's loss dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Clinton Christian, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-5.

Coming up, Smith Academy will be home for the holidays to greet Harlan Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The game will give the Fighting 54th their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Clinton Christian, they are taking a road trip to square off against South Bend Career Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
